Citrus City is a tape label for independent music based in Brooklyn, NY.
Here is a short variety of posters I both digitally and hand designed for the several house shows in Richmond, VA from 2019-2020.
4/2719 - My idea for this poster was pulled by both the time of the season, spring, and the music bill. The show featured a dream pop/funk touring band, with synthpop and R&B supporting acts. There was an overall upbeat feel of the nature of this show, so I experimented with Ilustrator to create the big bold flowers as well as fun fonts and filters. This was shared on various social media accounts for local promotion.
6/12/19 - This poster was a hand-crafted take on a music bill, utilizing very traditional DIY music flyer features. Because it was a house show, I took a page out of a vintage home interior design book, collaging hand lettering on top. The touring band, Dead Sullivan, was coming from Texas so as an ode to the west I designed it in a rope-font. This poster feels authentic, invoking personality that digital doesn't always grasp.
3/19 - This was a last-minute show that required a quick poster, so I devised more of an abbreviated version of a flyer. The show featured a touring dreampop band and folk supporting acts, so I was inspired to create a calm and dream-like visual for the poster.
3/24/20 - This show unfortunately never happened due to the outbreak of the pandemic, however, it was my favorite poster I've created to date. Getting involved in cyanotype printing in the last year, I wanted to put my skills to the test. This involved hand-lettering and foraging for interesting floral accents, playing with placement. I was pleased with the clarity of the print, and hope to do more of these in the future of design.
2/25/20 - I always believe there is a lot of creativity in simplicity, and a flyer for a DIY music show can be as simple as pastels on a notecard. This show's lineup had an exciting and imaginative air and I felt I could make a poster that spoke to that. While I had several different versions and trials for something so simple, I allowed myself to find comfort in a design of this nature.
